چکیده

Although acetylenic acids are not normally found in mammalian tissues, octadecynoyl-CoA esters can serve as substrates for rat liver microsomal acyl-CoA: phospholipid acyltransferases. The relatively high rate of transfer to the 2-hydroxyl of I-acylglycerol-3-phosphorylcholine by the 5-, 9-, and I2-positional cis, tram and yne isomers of acids supports the concept that n-bonds at these positions facilitate esterification irrespective of configuration. The preferred positional isomers for transfer to the I-hydroxyl, however, are different for the cis and yne derivatives, indicating a sensitivity of the enzyme(s) to configuration. In the latter transfer, an alternating selectivity occurred with the acetylenic isomers between 8 to 13 that was opposite to the pattern for the cis-octadecenoyl transfers.

The Unsaturated Fatty Acids of Egg Lecithin

The work on liver lecithins by Levene and Ingvaldsen’ and by Levene and Simms,z has shown the existence of lecithins which are distinguished from one another by the nature of their unsaturated fatty acids. There were isolated from liver lecithin, two unsaturated fatty acids, oleic and arachidonic, as well as two saturated acids, palmitic and stearic. Hence on the basis of the present findings i...

Effects of raw and modi®ed canola lecithins compared to canola oil, canola seed and soy lecithin on ruminal fermentation measured with rumen simulation technique

The effects of four different canola lecithins applied at proportions of 30 g fatty acid kgÿ1 diet were compared with diets containing either no additional lipid or the same amount of fatty acids from canola seed, pure canola oil and deoiled soy lecithin, respectively. Four types of canola lecithin with increasing dispersibility in water were used: raw; deoiled; deoiled/hydrolysed; and hydrolys...

Selective activity of Oleanolic and Maslinic acids on the amastigote form of Leishmania spp

Leishmaniasis represents a serious threat to the health as one of the most important neglected tropical diseases as designated by the World Health Organization. The disease is endemic in 82 countries, among them Tunisia is an indigenous area for cutaneous Leishmaniasis. In a previous work, two tritepenic acids namely oleanolic and maslinic acids have been isolated from olive leaf extract. In th...

Positional asymmetry of fatty acids on lecithin.

The possibility that naturally occurring lecithins may contain 1 molecule each of a saturated and an unsaturated fatty acid has never been shown. The data of Levene and Rolf (1) on the brominated lecithins from liver could be interpreted as indirect support for this theory. However, the evidence provided by Contardi and Latzer (2), Snider and Bloor (3), and Sinclair (4) on the fatty acid compos...
